I had actually never heard of this book, but stumbled on it when I was looking for a simple fun book for family read-aloud time that would not have a ton of heavy drama. So many great classics have a key character die at the end, or have some form of major drama, which is fine, but we needed something fun and light in our rotation for a change.I was a little worried it would be too simplistic and childish for my 10yo, but I needn't have worried. The book was a delight for all of us, from my 10yo to her grandma. It was a lot of fun to read aloud. The cadence and writing style are just plain enjoyable to read. The story is completely unrealistic and silly (talking cats, birds that keep secrets, crocodiles that love lollipops, etc), but it is told in such a way that you really get into the story. There is drama in the story, but nothing heavy, so if you have sensitive kids this is a good read for something entertaining but without death, sickness and fighting. This particular version of the book has all three tales in one book, which is perfect. Each tale led easily right into the next, and it made it very easy to tell the whole story as one tale.If you are considering this book, just order it. It's a super-easy read, and it truly is enjoyable for all ages.
